Linggi River or Sungai Linggi started from foothills of Titiwangsa Range. It started from area known as Pantai at foothills in Kg Jerlang. Linggi River also known as Batang Penar river started from Ampangan to Kg Jerlang at Pantai.
River Linggi flow through from Pantai to Ampangan, Seremban, Rasah, Mambau, Rantau, Linggi and ending at Kuala Linggi, Melaka.
Before 1840th, River Linggi was a main route to the people along River Linggi Valley. Since Malacca Sultanate period, River Linggi is the ancient main trade route. Some verbal-tellers said that small ships can through deep to area known Pantai today.
After 1840's, River Linggi became a tin trade route. Many town and small town was establish along the river bank as Rasah, Rahang, Seremban, Ampangan, Mambau, Kuala Sawah, Rantau, Linggi and Pengkalan Kempas. But today, the river becoming narrow and water level is going shallow and it be a water source to the Seremban District.
The Linggi is one of the few remaining rivers within Peninsular Malaysia still holding a wild breeding population of saltwater crocodiles.
